Gopani's Revolutionary Thermal Management Heat Pipe Technology

Advanced electronics, weapons systems, and medical device applications are increasingly demanding effective heat transfer and coolant recovery solutions. By integrating Gopani’s innovative porous structures and our proprietary additive manufactured gradient structures into your fluid component designs, you can unlock unprecedented levels of thermal system efficiency in a compact and lightweight package.

Gopani’s sintered media pore structure offers exceptional wicking properties, driven by the capillary action of amorphous metal particles. In loop heat pipe applications, a bespoke interior can wick process water 360 degrees around the pipe, ensuring that uniform heat distribution isn’t hindered by fluid accumulation.

Loop heat pipes are a form of heat exchanger designed for passive thermal energy transportation. They shine in scenarios where conventional heat pipes may falter, such as when the temperature difference between the heat source and sink is significant. Offering an efficient way to transfer heat over extended distances, they operate without the need for a pump or other moving parts

Gopani heat pipe components offer:

  • Transport heat over long distances without requiring a pump or other mechanical components.
  • Wick process fluid 360 degrees around the pipe for uniform heat distribution.
  • Can be customized to achieve your target wicking performance across a diverse range of industry applications.

Typical Applications

Our thermal management solutions are widely used in:

  • Cooling electronics
  • Thermal control of space vehicles
  • Thermal systems for advanced weapons
  • Surgical and diagnostic devices
  • Laser diodes
  • Heat exchangers

Sintered Heat Pipes Advantage

Sintered heat pipes are among the two primary types of heat pipe wicks used in terrestrial applications. They’re the go-to choice for high-volume heat pipe production, such as in laptops, where tens of thousands of identical heat pipes are produced daily. When compared to screen wicks, sintered wicks offer better performance at higher accelerations and heat fluxes, although there can be variability from one heat pipe to another.

Sintered wicks are primarily used in cylindrical heat pipes and high heat flux vapor chambers, providing a monolayer wick and feeders in high heat flux areas. Furthermore, they are employed in specialty designs where the wick occupies most of the heat pipe cross-section. This design approach was used in a high-temperature water heat pipe, where vapor pressure was extremely high, minimizing the vapor pressure drop.

Typically, Gopani’s sintered heat pipe wicks have a porosity of about 45%, similar to the porosity of closely packed spheres. For Loop Heat Pipe (LHP) wicks with filamentous wicks, the porosity can be as high as 65-70%. In contrast, many industries utilize higher temperatures and pressures to sinter to near 100% density. Gopani’s approach strikes a balance, providing an efficient and effective solution for your thermal management needs.
